What is lock snapping?
Lock snapping or cylinder snapping is only relevant to UPVC or composite doors fitted with Euro cylinder locks. The easiest way to prevent lock snapping is to upgrade your composite door locks to a new anti-snap lock such as British Standard, 3 Star BSI TS007 cylinders which are shown to resist this form of attack.
If I need an emergency locksmith, how soon can you get someone out?
We understand that in a situation where you need to call an emergency locksmith it can be very stressful, In these emergency situations we try to get out as quickly as possible, usually within an hour. We have to limit our emergency locksmith service to our immediate local areas of Droitwich and Worcester.
Do you cover evenings and weekends?
Yes, we can help with all your lock emergencies 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
What happens if my key snaps in the lock?
Don’t panic! – we can help. We recommend not trying to remove the key yourself as you may cause further damage to the door lock. Depending on where the snap occurs we may be able to remove and repair the lock. In more extreme cases the lock may need to be replaced.
Can you open or fix a lock without breaking it?
We always try to fix and open locks non-destructively as this will keep the costs down. However on some occasions we will have to break a lock if non-destructive entry isn’t possible. We will always advise of costings before proceeding with any work.
What are the lock requirements for household insurance?
This will vary from one insurance company to another. Most insurance policies require external doors to have locks to British Standard BS3621. These would need to be either a five lever mortice deadlock or sashlock, a multi point locking system or a rim automatic deadlatch. We recommend checking with your insurance company and insurance policy.
How long does it take it fix a broken lock?
This will vary depending on the lock type and the condition of the lock. A Yale lock for example would normally take 20 – 30 minutes to repair or replace. A mortice lock might take a bit longer nearer 40 to 50 minutes. It really depends on the type of lock, the fault and the condition of the door / lock. We will always give you a quote before undertaking any work.
Will the locksmith have the parts to fix my lock?
The answer is usually we do, but occasionally a door may require a specialist lock, part or lock mechanism which might not be stocked on the van. We would say 90% off the time we would be carrying all the parts required to fix / replace the lock. If we have to make a second visit to your property to finish fixing a lock we only charge a single call out charge, no charge would apply to the 2nd visit. We only fit the best quality locks and all parts and labour are covered by a 12 months guarantee.
What types of locks can you repair / replace?
We can repair, fix and replace all types of door locks including Mortice, Nightlatch (Yale type lock) and Euro Cylinder Lock.
Should I change the locks when I move home?
Yes, we believe changing locks should be a priority when you move into a new home. Firstly you have no idea how many copies of the keys exist or who has possession of these keys. Also if you were burgled by someone with keys it may affect your ability to claim on your insurance. For complete peace of mind please change those locks!
Should I change my locks if I lose my keys?
Yes, we think it’s best to change your locks if you lose your house keys. You never know where you lost them, if copies were taken and you cannot risk your house being burgled by someone with a key as this may invalidate your home insurance.
Which areas do you cover?
We’re based and offer locksmith services in Droitwich but we also cover the local surrounding Worcestershire area including, Worcester, Redditch and Bromsgrove.
